West Monkton Vision and Values

“At West Monkton we aim to be an inspirational community, where everyone has the courage and confidence to fly.”

We have then taking key words from this sentence and expanded with some of the words and phrases communicated to the Governing Body through a review of the school vision in 2013:

West Monkton – happy, safe, welcoming, caring, friendly.

Aim – personal goals, maximising potential, grow, achievement, spiritual, potential.

Inspirational -creative, great teaching, fun, challenge, environment, questioning, children’s voice, well resourced.

Community – prominent, church, team, global, local, national, prefects, school council, pride, respect, inclusive.

Everyone – children, adults, staff, parents, governors, students, equality, matters.

Courage – show off, well rounded, independence, resilience, encouragement.

Confidence – understanding, nurture, support, challenge, self-esteem.

Fly – expression, music, art, IT, sport, thrive, ability, performing arts.

The children have taken the school’s vision and values and represented them in the form of a Heron, which forms the logo and identity of our school.


As a Church of England school the works of the spirit are at the heart of everything we do. These are identified as the Fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5.24… The fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.)
These values are at the heart of our community.


We aim to:

  • create a caring, happy school in which everyone is welcome;
  • develop knowledge and understanding of Christianity and its purpose and value in our daily lives;
  • provide an inspirational, creative and child centred curriculum, which equips our children with essential skills for life;
  • encourage and value individual contribution, achievement and high standards in behaviour;
  • promote social and emotional development and encourage individual reflection and responsibility;
  • develop an understanding and respect for feelings, attitudes and beliefs of others;
  • continue to forge relationships with parents, governors, the local and global community;
  • enhance and extend learning and personal development through the performing arts.
